What would cause my OneDrive to suddenly be processing over 40,000 changes?

Due to orders from a particular organization, we are doing something to your files and metadata associated with them to stay in compliance.

over 600,000 changes processing. is OneDrive/Microsoft scraping our files or something?!?!
Same problem. Looks like it's been 3 months with no solution or even acknowledgement from Microsoft. Time to finally seek a different service.
I disagree, this sounds exactly like the original post.
I have the same issue. I have 40k processing changes on 3 devices, and it's painfully slow. It seems to be blocking any genuine file synchronisation from taking place until it's completed (I hope)! Why is this happening?
