Doing things at random in the desperate hope that you will somehow snag a correct result will not work and will probably make the problem (whatever it is) worse, as you have probably already discovered.
Your question is vague, and does not provide enough information for anyone to know what is going on. Rather than me or anyone trying to guess what is going on, it would be better, ie would waste less time and be more likely to yield a solution, if you can provide more information and be more specific.
I could run through a checklist of questions, such as "are the tasks all auto or manually scheduled?" and "have you set a status date?" and "have you seen the tracking table?", Alternatively, or additionally, I could suggest running a search in the forum for the key words in the question, such as "how to track and update progress" and that will yield hundreds of questions and correct answers. A screenshot would help a lot.
