How to disable Copilot for all applications - Mac

I don't want to use the copilot features that have automatically been added to my Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PPT, etc.) - and I feel that this should be something that we are able to do, without having to purchase a subscription to copilot and then disable it.

How can I disable these features, to stop the shadow offer to use copilot on every new line I start on a word document and remove the icon from the tool bar?

This should be something that is an optional add on, rather than a mandated installation.

THANK YOU! I had to quit Word and restart, and the icon was there.

    To repeat, on a Mac:

Cmd + comma, click the Copilot icon, unclick "Enable Copilot." Done.

Ms. Vito, i was baffled to see that the icon had showed up after several days of scr*** around to find out how to get rid of this horrid feature. I had so many times opened Preferences, shutting down Word, shutting down the laptop, etc etc, but it was never there.

Now I was finally able to uncheck the checkbox, and the hovering icon is no longer in my Word documents. And a new Word doc does no longer open with the copilot prompt. The entire thing is bewildering and weird. Now I need to figure out how to get rid of it on my mobile phone.

I like to use AI as an independent search tool, but not as an enforced tool in my work programs.

Thank you for your effort with text and pics. It will surely help other people. :-)

I just checked Excel and Powerpoint, and indeed they do not have the icon in the Preferences. In the ribbon, yes, it's there. Very weird, and the damn hovering thing is in the Powerpoint. I dont see it in the Excel.

I prefer to use Numbers for Mac, but even so, this AI spyware should not be in the Microsoft programs without my choice. Maddening.
