How to disable Copilot for all applications - Mac

Sjmanning: do not badger the users! I am paying for this product! I expect quality, and not that the vendor is hijacking my computer! And you should not be ordering users on how to spend their time. What are you? The self-appointed MS Office mind police? And to foster "trust" in the users, why dont you take up the battle with MS about this and make yourself useful instead of wasting your time harassing users with your mindless squawking. Go! And do the right thing now, or stand quietly in the corner for an hour to shame yourself.

I agree with you Walrus. It's even more than just bloating out an app with unasked for features - it's about the issue of AI and the politics that surround it, plus the lack of control over it. Why must everybody be forced into AI? The response by Sjmanning is devoid of any concern about the invalidity of forcing spyware on people. Essentially, the AI feature is spyware in disguise. Who's to say it's not reading your documents even if you have it disabled (versus completely removed). I suspect it is still capable of spying, even though the icon is not visible in the ribbon anymore. Then there is the highly annoying "disabled icon" hovering in every Word document, following your cursor around like a pesky mosquito on the page.

Of course people love this AI feature, for the writing it can do for them. And for that they are willing to pay the price of giving up control over their own documents and privacy. However, there are people who do NOT appreciate that. And it behooves them to be vocal about it. Sjmanning wants to stifle these opinions. Why? What's his vested interest in this AI stuff? Where are the cogent responses by Microsoft about this fraudulent issue?

It's fraud MS is committing, fraud in the sense that they appropriate your writing without your consent! And I'm paying for this software! If MS feels that they are entitled to appropriate my writing, why do they want me to pay for their software? The issue is quite serious, and I'm taking the time to write about it, because it is important to share these things with the community that uses word MS processing software for their work or private matters. This issue is completely sidestepping any privacy protocols. We should take them to court.

This thread is a worthy discussion, and until this issue is fixed, the more noise users make about it, the better. I just hope everyone posting here is also contacting MS directly via feedback and chat, so Microsoft gets the message loud and clear.

Please know that I don't disagree with the points you make. This issue has caused more unrest than anything since Windows Vista 🙂

There's no doubt that the noise is justified but this is not where it does any good. This is a peer-to-peer support venue hosted by Microsoft but not monitored by Microsoft decision makers. The participants are a combination of paid agents & volunteers attempting to assist in the use of the product Microsoft delivers. We have no control or influence on the design or development of those products.

For the benefit of those who want Microsoft to hear their noise there are established venues such as Feedback in the Help menu of each program which is monitored & evaluated by the development group. Additionally, users can directly access the Feedback Portal where they can vote for existing threads as well as submit their own.

What an ironic response from someone who chose to spend their time replying to multiple people in the same thread with the repetitive, judgmental, unhelpful, myopic, utterly pointless snark.

Users here have a right to be pissed off and vocal about this. Bloating out apps with AI features, putting those features on literally every line in a word-processing app, providing no way to opt out of those features, but publishing instructions for how to do so that don't even remotely resemble what's actually in the app -- all of this is worthy of being pissed off about, but all together it demonstrates a tone-deafness, ineptitude, and utter disregard for users.

You find this remarkable? And spend hours looking through file-architecture? Then write angry and equally pointless missives on this?

I find it remarkable that so many choose mindless, irrelevant and angry keyboard-pounding on this.

How about you ignore this?

Spend time on writing original thoughts rather than the Copilot machine output.

Trust that MS, as all major software developers, will bundle this "fix" - if they think it deleterious to subscription revenue - along with improvements when they chose to have a software update.
