I don't want to use the copilot features that have automatically been added to my Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PPT, etc.) - and I feel that this should be something that we are able to do, without having to purchase a subscription to copilot and then disable it.
How can I disable these features, to stop the shadow offer to use copilot on every new line I start on a word document and remove the icon from the tool bar?
This should be something that is an optional add on, rather than a mandated installation.

Thanks. I did see Jimi's reply and when I went to reinstall Word I got an installation error. deleted and redownloaded the install package and now that didn't work and i have no word. waiting for microsoft support to call me back.
Read Jimi Odell's post (earlier in the thread) for the solution to this absurd Microsoft-caused problem.
When I click preferences, I do not have copilot to enable or disable. When I go into the Community preferences section and uncheck the boxes i still see copilot in my word app. Help!
Go to Microsoft corporate legal.
They're just using Co-Pilot to reply -- it's the same people who don't actually have their own thoughts in writing who are writing the software and replying in the forums.
There's no doubt that there are some participants who appear to be relying on AI to stamp out replies but they are not the ones who write the software. They are paid 3rd party agents. Neither do those who do write the software spend any time monitoring these peer-to-peer Community fora which is hosted by Microsoft but not maned by Microsoft employees.
