From Microsoft Works to Access

Part of the problem is that, so far, we've not been able to definitively identify whether this database is even split or not. I suspect that it's not. And that makes the situation more problematic to diagnose.

I want to add a field and it won't let me. I suspect that it won't let me add a record. I suspect that I will have trouble making a report.

To add a field, or change a table's design in any other way, you must do so in the back end, not the front end. You should be able to insert or edit data in the front end, or create a report, however.

As we most recently discussed, trying to coach you through the steps remotely is difficult, in part because we are not always sure we're even on the same page regarding concepts. If you want to reach out to someone to help, I think Crystal is a very good choice, as Tom vS said. She specializes in exactly this kind of guided consulting for newcomers to Access. Others here could also help, but I'm pretty sure a more hands-on session or two will be the quickest.

I think you are missing something here. One Drive installs a LOCAL folder on your hard drive, This folder is synced with the online OneDrive folder.

So there shouldn't be a problem with opening the file from its current location.
