Excel STOCKHISTORY() function repeatedly encounters #CONNECT! error.

Hi Team,

I spent over 2 hours troubleshooting this issue with an advocate in Office support (7*********0). He worked very hard to understand and resolve the issue.

We tried numerous resets: the network, uninstalling and reinstalling office, updating office, powering down, and restarting the computer. Nothing helped.

The issue occurs in approximately 20% of the values for a list of stocks and one date. It occurs in a similar percentage of dates for a single stock.

Ultimately we discovered that creating a new spreadsheet and typing or pasting the formula into an empty cell will not result in the #CONNECT! error. But this does not work in previously created spreadsheets.

Please check on this as soon as possible. This is a critical function for applying Excel to stock research.

    I have had the same issue since August 16th or 17th (Not sure exactly when I first saw the problem.) Also have spent lots of time since then trying to chase down the cause/solution without success.

    I am finding that the frequency and specifics, (stock, date(s)), of the erroneous cells change when I refresh my workbook. They never all work, and at least a few work each refresh, just not the same ones every time.

    Good morning

    I think this has something to do with the data source since in my case, the #CONNECT error only shows up in certain stocks.

    (1) This morning I opened a new spreadsheet with the same fields of the table that has the errors and started entering some stocks that I am planning on trading this week. So far all have displayed the correct information. Then I entered a stock that has the #CONNECT problem in the other sheet and it comes back with the error. So this is only on selected stocks.

    (2) I did not count the number of records that showed the problem yesterday so I cannot really verify this, but it seems to me that there are less #CONNECT errors on the sheet.

    (3) Yesterday I was constantly getting an error label, you know, the label that appears just below the menu, an today it has not appeared. So I guess the issue is slowly being resolved.

    (4) This is not the first time I get strange behavior after an upgrade, the other day I had one with a need to add memory to a partition, and the solution was quite technical, so it would be nice if MS would do more testing before launching upgrades.

    Thank you for the troubleshooting idea. I tried another version of Excel, on another system, the 2407 version. I run the updated 2408 version on my personal account. Both versions have the STOCKHISTORY() #CONNECT! issue.

    And I waited until they did a normal update instead of the Preview beta test version. Should have waited a bit longer.

    I don't want to divert this thread, but there also seems to be other issues with Release 2408. The window layouts of the Visual Basic editor appear to have changed. Moving back and forth between the underlying spreadsheet and the editor is different.

    This is less important than the broken stock quote system.
