After updating Access in Office 365 to version 2408, the MSACCESS.EXE process remains after exiting Access.

After applying the quality update for the latest channel (preview version) of Microsoft Access (64-bit), version 2408 (build 17928.20066) dated 8/14, the MSACCESS.EXE process won't end even after closing Microsoft Access application.

The reproduction steps are as follows:

  1. Create a form named Form1.
  2. On Form1, create a command button named Command1.
  3. In the Click event of Command1, write "Application.Quit".

Run the application, click Command1 on Form1 to close the application. Afterward, when you check the Task Manager, MSACCESS.EXE process won't end.

This issue does not occur in the 32-bit version. I believe this is a bug. Can you advise where I should report this?

Rolling back to version 2407 resolved this issue.

    The same is happening to us in our company, several users are affected now due to this issue. We need to roll back to a later version until Microsoft fixes this issue. Please consider that this will take us a considerable amount of time. Please let us know whenever this issue is fixed so we can reactivate again the updates.

    This is not even difficult to replicate, with a simple testing process they should be able to realize the bug before releasing a new version. Please consider improving the testing phase for later versions.

    They are aware of it and investigating. I will let you know when I hear relevant news.

    THANK YOU! These commands worked for us. We are still trying to turn off auto-updates but thats configured at an O365 level to exclude. This got us going again. HUGE - thanks again.

    Just changed my Insider settings from Preview to Beta, to see if 2409 was any better, and it's not.

    These are the DLL's and version in the Beta release, and Access still don't shut down properly.

    I'm just wondering if Microsoft has acknowledged this issue or has a patch for this issue. I am having several computers having this issue with MS Access. I tried reporting this as an issue on our Admin Center but Microsoft in as typical responded to it as "No issue found".

    As several have suggested, the workaround that I've had to do was to roll back to version 16.0.17726.20126 and that seems to fix the issue. So it's definitely something messed up with this new update that Microsoft is refusing to acknowledge.

    I've seen this happen on the 32bit version of Office as well.
