Hi,
I've been working with hundreds of presentations using YouTube videos and had no trouble with ads till now (8/5/24).
I have a Premium YouTube account and have spoken with tech support at YouTube and Microsoft. The problem remains unresolved.

No question about it—youtube linked videos will NOW play with ads, particularly if you’re linking to a popular site. And as you note, the ONLY way to prevent this is to download the youtube videos to your computer, then insert them directly into your powerpoint (which permits you to edit the beginning and end points). To download, you’ll need to download an app for this purpose—just google “youtube to mp4 free converter” and you’ll be given several options. BUT, this is a very tedious process, and if you’ve got dozens of youtube videos, it’s going to take some time. However, it’s the only way I’ve found to bypass ads—forever.
If you use the cloud version of PowerPoint to present, the ads wouldn't be there because you're using a browser where you are signed in to YouTube premium.
I have had the same problem with YouTube videos since the beginning of this school year (8/12/24). It has been disruptive to my English classes and very frustrating. I hope that YouTube and Microsoft will resolve this issue in a manner that will be supportive to all educators who wish to continue using their platforms.
As I’ve expressed before, I’m not optimistic a solution will happen. This is clearly something youtube implemented as a way to increase their ad revenues—and of course, to prevent 3rd party apps from gaining free access to their content. Unless Microsoft agrees to some type of compensation to Google (highly doubtful—trillion dollar companies don’t like to part with a dime), we’re just going to have to live with this problem.
Yep. I think you're right, Brian. What's odd is that they didn't think of it before - when they introduced Youtube Premium in the first place, and let us get used to ad-free viewing.
