Why are ads suddenly appearing on my YouTube videos?

It's good to know I'm not alone in this battle.

Like you, I've been sharing music videos with my students in my PowerPoint presentations at Berklee College of Music for the past two years and never had an issue with ads until now.

I hope this can be resolved.

Meanwhile, I have to totally revamp my lesson plans. Grrrrr....

Do I need to do anything else or has this issue automatically been handed over to the backend crew?

Also... I'm fairly convinced from my conversation with someone at YouTube that these ads in PowerPoint are intentional. I believe in the past few months they've changed their policy for third party applications.

I would love to hear that Microsoft and YouTube could come to an agreement on this because nothing ruins a PowerPoint more than advertising for random companies.

It certainly sounds as though YouTube has changed their terms of service to allow them to display ads in videos hosted in other programs (web sites other than theirs, PowerPoint, etc).

Does the Premium service allow you to download videos? If so, that might be a workaround (though a tedious one): Download the video to your computer then insert it from there.

Another approach would be to use video capture software to capture the video as you play it directly from YouTube, though I'm fairly certain that this would NOT be within YouTube's terms of service and might get you into legal trouble if they catch on. There. You've been warned. :-)

I have been experiencing this same problem. YouTube has said they never guaranteed ads free for embedded videos. I told them I call their bull ****. I've been embedding videos for two years and have never once had an ad show up, and now, last week, all of a sudden, they're showing up. They changed something either on purpose or by accident that caused this to start. The funny thing is they are all political ads that I'm seeing.

As per your description, this issue occurred in new profile and PowerPoint online without the same issue, and the URL changed. This issue may be due to some conflict between the PowerPoint client and YuTube. I'm afraid this issue needs to be investigated from the backend side via remote assistance and collect the background logs. As this Forum community has limited resources, the backend support team there has more permission than us, they have more resources to investigate the issue from the backend, they have Escalate channel to escalate your issue to check more and collect log reports for the root cause.

In the meanwhile, I also recommend you report this issue to Youtube Support.

And also send feedback from within PowerPoint > Help menu > Feedback > Report a problem. Feedback submit by this way directly goes to the related team. This is the way to let the developers know this issue and help to investigate it.
