Hi,

I've been working with hundreds of presentations using YouTube videos and had no trouble with ads till now (8/5/24).

I have a Premium YouTube account and have spoken with tech support at YouTube and Microsoft. The problem remains unresolved.

Help!

    Hi there

Just to endorse, this sudden change happened in Australia about two weeks ago - except the Youtube ads seem to be focussed on selling hamburgers (Hungry Jacks - like McDonalds), not politics! Luckily I am not giving presentations to vegetarians.

Yeah, I am calling BS on this YouTube. They told me the same thing, that it is working as intended and that ads were never promised not to show in PowerPoint, but I have been doing it for years, YEARS, I SAY!!! and I have NEVER, not once, had an ad show up in PowerPoint. And I don't mean I used it casually; I mean numerous PP presentations a week with multiple videos embedded; not a single time did I have an ad play. Now, I have ads that play nearly every single video. Someone, either at Microsoft or YouTube, changed something that caused this. You will not change my mind on that.

    Thanks Paul,

Although I am not familiar with google slides I will check out your workaround. I really appreciate your following up with YouTube. The more users that raise the issue and complain or cancel their YouTube premium will hopefully make Google address the issue.

Also, thanks for taking the time to respond and letting me know. Until yesterday, before seeing these posts, I thought I was doing something wrong or was the only one with the issue.

Thanks Robert - I had the same response about 10 minutes ago from "Nas".

When asked to refer to the clause in the Terms and Conditions that referred to this limitation things didn't go too well.

On a positive note, was advised that this isn't an issue if you play powerpoint in Google Slides and are subscribed into Premium . I just tested this and it worked. It means though that I either have to import my slides into Google Slides and then re-embed the videos (they don't drag the links over when you import) or build the powerpoint in Google Slides.

I followed up with YouTube and was on a chat with one of their representatives and here is their response to the ads appearing in PowerPoint:

3:10:44 AM Nas: I further checked this issue you are experiencing with embedded YouTube videos in Microsoft Powerpoint.
3:10:56 AM Nas: Let me shed some light on this. Apparently, this is working as intended.
3:11:11 AM Nas: YouTube Ads will show even if you have a YouTube Premium subscription. This is because Microsoft PowerPoint is a third-party app.
3:11:20 AM Nas: YouTube Premium only works with the YouTube app or the YouTube website.
3:11:32 AM Nas: I hope this helps clarify your concern.
