I cannot remove the 'ctrl and click option for hyperlink - I JUST want to click on the cell and automatically open the hyperlink.

I have a document I share using Excel online via onedrive. I update it in on the desktop app and people access it via a link, and view it on the Web version.

Up until yesterday, a viewer would be able to click a cells with a hyperlink to another sheet in the workbook, and it would automatically take them there. Today, every single cell with a hyperlink requests the viewer to 'ctrl and click' to follow the hyperlink.

I have gone though every single option on my desktop Excel app to try and turn off this 'ctrl and click' functuon but I genuinely cannot find anything relevant or that has worked. I have the latest version of Excel for Mac and I haven't changed any settings.

Please, how do I make hyperlinks work automatically again? Thank you!!

I found that hovering over the link pops up the link. Click it and the tab opens as the active tab.

I Found a work around, select Cell / right click mouse / link options /open link

    And also, the actual Microsoft Moderator is on that thread I recommended to search for. The person who seems to have answered the OP on this one seems to be a user who has no idea that microsoft did away with that functionality.

    I gave a Microsoft help desk person remote access to my laptop and OneDrive today and re-created the problem to help them understand.

    Nice person and she tried a few things but I don’t think she was able to offer much in the way of a solution, she said she would ask her technical team to look at it and wanted to close the help request as resolved, I insisted she leave it open and unresolved.

    Later I received an advice email suggesting I look at an irrelevant post from 2019 and the following:

    If you prefer here's some-help resources:

    • Microsoft Support: provides self-help instructions for common customer questions.
    • Microsoft Community: provides answers to questions others have asked (yours might be the same), or you can ask a new one for free. If you're new to Community, click Get more info for information on how to search for a solution or ask a question.

    So, we’re no closer to getting this resolved.
