This is about repetitive screen clutter, it doesn't need to be there so let's switch it off. I'll point out that contract worker such as myself have no scope to change the settings of the working models of companies we work at. So on a daily basis we have to clean away screen trash which is electronically generated by a Microsoft product. Screen space is always at a premium.
Now the answers on the above link completely skip around the issue - if anything they misunderstand what the questioner is driving at. As another person irritated by intrusive - let's call it feature creep (harsher words could be used) - I'm bemused that increasing product complexity isn't accompanied by ways to clean things up by eg turning off nags.
The issue hasn't gone away. It isn't solved. And yes - just to be clear - I'm perfectly able to redesign spreadsheets to make them more efficient and limit bloat - and I do this if it's in my remit.
I'm also aware that answers can be phrased to close down issues that aren't going to be fixed.

I am having the same issue. It is so annoying!!! I do not want to change my workbook!! Microsoft please get rid of this annoying prompt!!!!!!
Well done Microsoft ! Another irritating feature which is just an interruption to real work. Trying to make everyone conform to some made up standard. If a workbook is slow it's up to the user to request help and not force it onto everyone every time. I miss Lotus.
I have a workbook I work with on a daily basis that nags me EVERY time I open a fresh copy of the document:
"SLOW WORKBOOK? 82% of your workbook and metadata that can be optimized to improve performance."
I am not the original author of the document, and I am not permitted to make big changes to the backend of how the document works. It's very complex, but works just fine with no performance issues.
Every time I open a new copy of this document, I have to dismiss this stupid nag banner. I don't need it, I don't want it, and it hampers my productivity. It's not helping me, and I am requesting a way to disable this function in Excel.
This nonsense is what people are talking about when they refer to the "ensh*tification" of software. Everything in the Office Suite is nagging me to do X, Y, and Z all of the time, trying to alter and influence how I interact with a product, and it's exhausting.

I just want to second what everyone is saying.
Please remove this feature. I followed through with the optimization just to get rid of the notification and my workbook has been irrevocably damaged. I had to restore to weeks ago and lost a ton of progress. We can't just click to ignore the prompt every time we open our workbooks, it is completely unacceptable. At least provide an option to turn it off.
