Publisher alternative in 2026

Microsoft insists that Word and Powerpoint (that is the funniest ones) will do what Publisher does, but that is an outright lie. I have a few standard envelopes that I use...saved in specific file names, and YOU CANNOT DO THAT IN WORD!!!! Any envelopes are one and done and not savable. I have church brochures, etc. and NONE OF THEM work with Word. I do not know what Microsoft's reasoning is behind this, but they certainly did not ask any actually users.

I am not creating another email just to satisfy Microsoft. They will find a way to negate that, too.

I have an 80 page 2 sided 5.5x8.5 book that we do every year. Unfortunately for us we changed the format to tab bleeds and coil binding.

What I like so much the ability to have master page layouts and booklet layouts then quickly switch to side by side 2 page layouts. I'm having problems finding these features.

Libre Draw has master pages. I don't know where coil binding or tab bleeds are in Publisher, so I don't even know where to look. Go check for yourself and see if you can find it.

It hasn't worked for me. I loaded MS Publisher 97 OK and it looks as though I could create new files with it, but when I try to open my existing Publisher files with it (which were all made after 2018), it says it can't be done because they were created with a Publisher version different from Publisher 97. Money down the drain. Was I wrong to think Publisher 97 was a Perpetual version? What is a Perpetual version? Where do I get one?
