Hello, What software will people be using and why when Publisher is phased out in October 2026? Thank you.

I know there's InDesign and Canva. Also, will Publisher files be able to be converted ?

I don't know how to do an original post, but I agree with you. As a Special Education teacher, I use Publisher to create customized visuals, routines, schedules, story booklets, calendars, all which incorporate pictures/images and text. Being able to create different layouts, resize, and manipulate images and text, group and ungroup, move from page to page, cannot be done with Word or PowerPoint. I use PowerPoint for my slide presentations, especially during online learning with COVID, but nothing works like Publisher for many of my needs.

Word will not open, update, or use Publisher files (*.pub).

Some "desktop publishing" programs, e.g., Libre Office Draw and Affinity Publisher 2, allow you to open Publisher files. From what I've read, Publisher files may not transfer perfectly into these applications, but will be "close enough."

Will the other programs like Word be able to open my current Publisher files so I can continue to update and utilize them?

That is a very helpful suggestion, David. Perhaps Microsoft could confirm that Windows 11 and versions to come will support a stand-alone Publisher program version such as that which many of us purchased, independently, in the 'earlier days'! The ending of Publisher will devalue the use of 365 in my opinion. It certainly will for me!
