MS Word lagging on 2020 Apple M1 MacBook Pro

EDIT: I uninstalled and reinstalled Word as an older version (16.84) and Word works perfectly well.

I have an Apple MacBook Pro M1 chip from late 2020. It works perfectly well. However, Word starts lagging when I use it for a few minutes. This is not an issue with my computer – all other programmes work perfectly well while Word is lagging.

I tried uninstalling Word and reinstalling it, but this problem has persisted. I have closed all other apps bar Word, but Word still lags. I have also tried moving documents out of my OneDrive folder so they weren't being autosaved onto the cloud, but the lag persisted. Running Activity Monitor on Mac does not show excessive strain on Memory, CPU etc. from Word.

I recently installed an update, and I wonder whether this is the cause? Stumped as to how to fix this issue.

    Microsoft is aware of the problem and is investigating.

    If you can get Word to run, please use the Help menu and choose Feedback > I Don't Like Something. That sends metrics about Word to Microsoft so they can gather data to analyze this issue.

    You might try using Quit (Command-Q) of all open Microsoft Applications and then relaunch Word a couple times. That fixed the problem for some (but not most).

    Im having the same issue. Cleared cache, rebooted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled word. It’s frustratingly unusable and I am coming upon an urgent book deadline.

    same issue ;

    I have restored my Mac to factory settings and paid for another MS Office instead of using my husband's—same issue- waste of money.

    Activity monitor shows Word doc moves from Megabytes to G- Bytes in ten minutes or so, and Word crashes.

    I sent six messages to MS today, but no reply .

    Same issue here, only started in the past few days.

    Word is super laggy, very annoying.

    I've cleaned up my disc space and memory, made no difference.
