Hello,
I have Word 16.85 provided through my university. I have noticed this consistently in the passed few days. Every time I select my text and then try to change the bullet, my whole software across all the Word Windows freezes, the 'Microsoft Error Reporting' background app pops up and appears in the applications dock, and the window says it is unresponsive. I then have to either force quit or restart my entire device.
I did my research and it says to reinstall the latest AutoUpdate which I did, but that did nothing. I then completely reinstalled the entire Microsoft suite which 2 days later it has returned. I can't keep reinstalling the suite because I have limited downloads through my educational institution. I have contacted IT support from my university and they are unable to help but provide temporary solutions that makes my desktop app useless.
For context I have the latest MacBook pro, the device software is up to date with the latest IOS and my word says it doesn't need updating.
Please help, I have exams in 2 weeks and every time it freezes it deletes all my recent work and takes a minimum of 4 hours to find a solution (normally reinstalling the entire Microsoft suite).

There must be a better way to get the news out (or to cite someone else on this forum?), but here is the message that solved it for me yesterday. The only thing this adds from Michael Hermann Willig’s reply a few minutes ago is the business about changing to the Preview channel—which is the only way to do it until they move it. I’m already way out of my pay grade, here, so I don’t really understand the whys and wherefores, but here it is:

Apparently v16.85.2 has not yet been released to the Current Channel.
Use Help> Check for Updates then click the Advanced button & select Current Channel (Preview) from the list of Update Channels. The 16.85.2 update then will be available.
You can revert to Current Channel after updating if you wish.

I've been having persistent issues with Microsoft Office. Also experienced issues whether using old or new versions, sometimes it lets me change a letters, and other times it doesn't. This forces me to copy the text into a Word document or another editable format, make the changes, and then paste it back into PowerPoint. It's incredibly frustrating and affects my productivity.
That worked for me. I have the Office 365 family package (something like that). I had all the symptoms others mentioned and this brought Word back to normal! 5-28-24
