Mac Onedrive app: shared folders don't appear in Finder any more, and files seem to be online only.

I had a folder shared with me, and I could fully sync it to my own mac - all the office files were available offline on my own mac (word, excel, ppt). It appeared as a folder in Finder in the Onedrive folder.

Since yesterday the shared folder has disappeared from finder, and all the files are no longer on the mac. They don't show up in a spotlight search. The folder has been replaced by a url that opens the shared folder online.

The folder is fully available when I access Onedrive through the web.

I can also open the shared files on Onedrive through the native Mac apps, if they appear in recent files, or browse to "Online locations", but these only show the recent locations that I had accessed through finder. I can't browse the entire folder through an app.

I have tried the following:

  • restarted the Mac
  • Signed out of Onedrive and signed back in again
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive
  • In the web Onedrive I have clicked "add shortcut to my files". This places a url to the oneline folder in finder, which is useless.
  • Reset Onedrive via "Show Package Contents", etc....

Happening on both Mac M2 Air and Macbook Pro Intel, both have current versions of SW for both Mac and Office.

    Same exact thing happened to me on two different shared folders on both a pc and m1 MacBook Air. One folder was unavailable for probably 6 months and the other for maybe 3 weeks. Magically one day they both started working again. However on the meantime I replaced one shared folder with google shared drive and I’m not going back. Download Google drive app and it has same functionality as OneDrive shared folder in finder and explorer.

    Mine too. As of probably 4/14/25. Don’t do anything. Magic.

    Good to hear that it started working for some of you :) However two days ago I lost access to the last standing shared folder :D So maybe they shuffle who has access ;)

    So as i can see this issue is year old already? Common Microsoft. 4 my shared folders was gone like half year ago but one folder i have working was fine up to today. My last folder is gone and i have exactly the same problems. So it seems you not fix it but expend to those who still was able to access files as should.

    Not sure probably have to go away as onedrive is dead to me.
