Mac Onedrive app: shared folders don't appear in Finder any more, and files seem to be online only.

I had a folder shared with me, and I could fully sync it to my own mac - all the office files were available offline on my own mac (word, excel, ppt). It appeared as a folder in Finder in the Onedrive folder.

Since yesterday the shared folder has disappeared from finder, and all the files are no longer on the mac. They don't show up in a spotlight search. The folder has been replaced by a url that opens the shared folder online.

The folder is fully available when I access Onedrive through the web.

I can also open the shared files on Onedrive through the native Mac apps, if they appear in recent files, or browse to "Online locations", but these only show the recent locations that I had accessed through finder. I can't browse the entire folder through an app.

I have tried the following:

  • restarted the Mac
  • Signed out of Onedrive and signed back in again
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive
  • In the web Onedrive I have clicked "add shortcut to my files". This places a url to the oneline folder in finder, which is useless.
  • Reset Onedrive via "Show Package Contents", etc....

Happening on both Mac M2 Air and Macbook Pro Intel, both have current versions of SW for both Mac and Office.

I have a windows desktop and share onedrive folders with my son and all of a sudden i lost access to the shared folder on my windows computer. I also have a mac and use shared onedrive folders and same thing happened today. I was previously able to see shared folders in Finder and today they were gone, and when I try to share by creating a shortcut in onedrive online i get a url instead of a folder. So it has happened to me on both a windows computer and a mac. Is the problem with onedrive?

For those using OneDrive on a Mac, I have a solution. Basically, I just started from scratch.

Open your OneDrive via a web browser and log out (this is just to be safe but likely don't need to). For an extra step, un-share the drive you normally connect to and then re-share it. Again, I'm not sure this needs to be done, but this is what I started with in finding this solution.

You will need to unlink your Mac from the OneDrive. Open OneDrive and click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner. Select Preferences/Account the click on 'Unlink this Mac.' Then delete the OneDrive app as well as any associated files it has with it. If you have an App Remover tool, that should do the trick. If not, search for OneDrive in Finder to find these files.

Next, go into the App Store and download the OneDrive app for Mac. Once installed, open the app, log in and follow the prompts like you are setting up OneDrive for the first time. It should then log in to your account and begin the sync process.

I did this to no avail.

Unfortunately, I have erased the shortcuts to the shared folders from my OneDrive and now, even using OneDrive Web I can`t add even a shortcut to the shared folders on My Archives.
