Mac Onedrive app: shared folders don't appear in Finder any more, and files seem to be online only.

I had a folder shared with me, and I could fully sync it to my own mac - all the office files were available offline on my own mac (word, excel, ppt). It appeared as a folder in Finder in the Onedrive folder.

Since yesterday the shared folder has disappeared from finder, and all the files are no longer on the mac. They don't show up in a spotlight search. The folder has been replaced by a url that opens the shared folder online.

The folder is fully available when I access Onedrive through the web.

I can also open the shared files on Onedrive through the native Mac apps, if they appear in recent files, or browse to "Online locations", but these only show the recent locations that I had accessed through finder. I can't browse the entire folder through an app.

I have tried the following:

  • restarted the Mac
  • Signed out of Onedrive and signed back in again
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive
  • In the web Onedrive I have clicked "add shortcut to my files". This places a url to the oneline folder in finder, which is useless.
  • Reset Onedrive via "Show Package Contents", etc....

Happening on both Mac M2 Air and Macbook Pro Intel, both have current versions of SW for both Mac and Office.

Shared folders returned for me. Firstly on Windows then 2 days later on macOS. On both OneDrive hanged on the process so I had to unlink and link the account again on each machine.

Switch to Google Drive. Forget OneDrive. I did this and no issues anymore.

I’m only using Office from MS until the day that I will switch for all to some open office suit.

    This way, MS sucks!!

Whoever heads Microsoft’s outsourced customer support should be fired. I can’t think of a worse customer support process that is also so ineffective. The craziest thing is even one time a scammer intercepted the call somehow pretending to be customer support, but I knew it fishy once they tried getting me onto a different computer view software. I couldn’t believe it, ever since then I’ve been super weary of the Indian customer support, even though the Nigerian support is absolutely ineffective.

Are you saying to switch to using Google Drive altogether, or did you find some way to use Google Drive to access a shared drive using OneDrive?

Like many of us, I also unlinked my Mac, delete the app and everything else and re-installed. It worked for 2-3 weeks until it quit. Very frustrating. Obviously, Microsoft doesn't care about its software or their users/customers as long as the revenues keep rolling in.

Download Google Drive app and use a shared drive instead of onedrive. Works the same once you download the app. Folder appear in explorer and finder. It's worked on both my mac and windows pc. Only downside is autosave with office applications does not work, but it asks if you want to save before closing, so no big deal to me.
