Mac Onedrive app: shared folders don't appear in Finder any more, and files seem to be online only.

I had a folder shared with me, and I could fully sync it to my own mac - all the office files were available offline on my own mac (word, excel, ppt). It appeared as a folder in Finder in the Onedrive folder.

Since yesterday the shared folder has disappeared from finder, and all the files are no longer on the mac. They don't show up in a spotlight search. The folder has been replaced by a url that opens the shared folder online.

The folder is fully available when I access Onedrive through the web.

I can also open the shared files on Onedrive through the native Mac apps, if they appear in recent files, or browse to "Online locations", but these only show the recent locations that I had accessed through finder. I can't browse the entire folder through an app.

I have tried the following:

  • restarted the Mac
  • Signed out of Onedrive and signed back in again
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive
  • In the web Onedrive I have clicked "add shortcut to my files". This places a url to the oneline folder in finder, which is useless.
  • Reset Onedrive via "Show Package Contents", etc....

Happening on both Mac M2 Air and Macbook Pro Intel, both have current versions of SW for both Mac and Office.

Because this thread is getting a lot of hits lately, I thought I would reply. Our work team abandoned OneDrive, in part because of this issue. Now we are having other issues, like how to successfully co-author on Dropbox (I think this is solvable). But at least I can have my folders in my finder. It was rough to work around that since June until January when we switched.

Same issue. Just occurred today, after working for 8+ years. I have a family folder that my wife and I share ALL our personal details in.

This morning the sidebar link in my finder said "original location of folder not found", and I couldn't find the folder in the OneDrive location either. I went through all the steps I could find online, from updating, uninstalling, restarting, unlinking, doing the "show package contents", and even going so far as to have her remove sharing of the folder and resharing it.

Just restating, this issue just occurred for me TODAY, Feb 25th, 2025. I'm on the Mac Sequoia 15.3.1, and the most recent version of the standalone OneDrive app.

Quite frankly, disastrous for workflow and efficiency. Very disappointed in Microsoft for this issue persisting for such a long time with no resolution (over 9 months since it was reported?!).

This is so frustrating! I have had the same problem appear on my MacBook in the last few days and I can no longer save files to my shared folder. Super irritating since the folder contained years of files from my old computers.

I just encountered the 'shared folders becoming internet shortcut' issue since yesterday & therefore I'd like to report it here.

I searched the internet, it seems this has been quite a widespread issue since June 2024,

9 months almost & still no fix from MSFT? That's a shame. Pls, fix this ASAP.

I'm using One Drive with my family. Last year I lost access to one shared folder. Today I lost access to another one. They said they are working on solution, but the situation seems to be worse and worse.
