Mac Onedrive app: shared folders don't appear in Finder any more, and files seem to be online only.

I had a folder shared with me, and I could fully sync it to my own mac - all the office files were available offline on my own mac (word, excel, ppt). It appeared as a folder in Finder in the Onedrive folder.

Since yesterday the shared folder has disappeared from finder, and all the files are no longer on the mac. They don't show up in a spotlight search. The folder has been replaced by a url that opens the shared folder online.

The folder is fully available when I access Onedrive through the web.

I can also open the shared files on Onedrive through the native Mac apps, if they appear in recent files, or browse to "Online locations", but these only show the recent locations that I had accessed through finder. I can't browse the entire folder through an app.

I have tried the following:

  • restarted the Mac
  • Signed out of Onedrive and signed back in again
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Onedrive
  • In the web Onedrive I have clicked "add shortcut to my files". This places a url to the oneline folder in finder, which is useless.
  • Reset Onedrive via "Show Package Contents", etc....

Happening on both Mac M2 Air and Macbook Pro Intel, both have current versions of SW for both Mac and Office.

I just discovered this problem after using shared folders in OneDrive for years. The url to Ondrive on line was created 2 days ago. This is pretty bad. Hope it can be fixed soon.

No, there is no solution for that. And the issue is expanding. I create the ticket each week for them, but I'm getting the same answer over and over, that they are working on the solution and it takes time. And they hope that I understand their technical limitations.

It's super sad that they don't want to give us a clear answer. At the moment we can only spam their support with the same issue, and maybe someone will do something with this issue.

We didn't get any answer from MS from June 2024. It seems that the don't care.

And today all shared folder changed into url file. So OneDrive is 100% not usable for me and family.

If any lawyers are reading this, I hope someone creates a class action lawsuit against Microsoft for failing to provide this basic functionality that is advertised as a part of the offering (that we are paying for), and negligently failing to fix it for many months.

Funny to get sales emails from Microsoft reps trying to sell this Copilot vaporware when they can't get basic file sharing to work.
