I have a spreadsheet that I use daily that just started getting the stupid "Slow workbook? 50% of your workbook has unused formatting and metadata that can be optimized to improve performance...Check Performance" pop-up that I'm having to close out every time I open the workbook. It's super annyoying because the spreadsheet is formatted just the way I need it and the stuff "excel" wants to remove is stuff that I don't want removed. How can I make the popup stop? I've looked through the options and googled but can't seem to find a straight forward answer. Hoping someone has some kind of trick to make it stop.
The main issue seems to be that I have every other column formatted like pictured below. I did this so that I could easily see each column of data to make sure I was working in the correct one. Is there a easier way to do that?

It is currently not possible to disable this feature, but Microsoft is working on it. It turned out to be more complicated than originally estimated, so the fix has been delayed.

Here to keep this going, as there is still no fix and the previously mentioned workaround doesn't work for me either. Maybe Microsoft "Patched" the workaround.
Is there an add on or something that might suppress the notification?
Just replying to keep this thread alive - it's extremely irritating and actually works against what my company produces - large empty templates ready for input. Several clients open the documents, naturally click an appealing button that says it will 'improve performance', and then come back to us complaining that they've lost everything. Please just remove this banner Microsoft!
Right! It shouldn't be that difficult either. But if you listen to them it, it'll take a million programmers a decade to code OUT something they coded IN with a few programmers and late evening binge drinking Brawndo watching the latest hit movie "****", while shouting "Brawndo has what plants users crave. It's got electrolytes useless banners."
