I have a spreadsheet that I use daily that just started getting the stupid "Slow workbook? 50% of your workbook has unused formatting and metadata that can be optimized to improve performance...Check Performance" pop-up that I'm having to close out every time I open the workbook. It's super annyoying because the spreadsheet is formatted just the way I need it and the stuff "excel" wants to remove is stuff that I don't want removed. How can I make the popup stop? I've looked through the options and googled but can't seem to find a straight forward answer. Hoping someone has some kind of trick to make it stop.
The main issue seems to be that I have every other column formatted like pictured below. I did this so that I could easily see each column of data to make sure I was working in the correct one. Is there a easier way to do that?

Microsoft Fix this bug! This causes my spreadsheets to be reformatted without my permission! Argh!!
Just adding my voice to those keen for this bug to be resolved. I have produced several large sheets shared with multiple users on Sharepoint. The formatting on the sheets is by design and the performance is fine, but every time one of my colleagues opens one of these sheets Microsoft gives them the convenient option of wiping out the formatting I have painstakingly designed. Apparently I could suppress this warning with VBA but that will just result in more warnings for the user.
If Microsoft is able to program this "feature" they can surely easily include an option in settings to turn it on or off.
Surprised there isn't a fix by now. We don't need more pop ups reminding us of our inadequacies. Excel trying to push us to therapy.
I am doubtful that MS is "working on it." This issue has been ongoing for years. Lots of complaints, all of them reflecting very similar circumstances (My spreadsheet is fine the way it is, I'm aware of the formatted but unused (yet) cells, it's confusing to other users, etc.) and lots of "helpful" responses (Have you tried optimizing? Can you send me your spreadsheet?) and never anything usable.
My suspicion is that there is something useful to MS in keeping this function in place -- data gathering seems likely -- or this would have been easier to fix.

FIX IT MICROSOFT!!! I am tired of running it to remove it, but only to have it reappear every single time not matter what I try and I have to remove it manually.
