Is there a way to stop the check performance pop-up?

I have a spreadsheet that I use daily that just started getting the stupid "Slow workbook? 50% of your workbook has unused formatting and metadata that can be optimized to improve performance...Check Performance" pop-up that I'm having to close out every time I open the workbook. It's super annyoying because the spreadsheet is formatted just the way I need it and the stuff "excel" wants to remove is stuff that I don't want removed. How can I make the popup stop? I've looked through the options and googled but can't seem to find a straight forward answer. Hoping someone has some kind of trick to make it stop.

The main issue seems to be that I have every other column formatted like pictured below. I did this so that I could easily see each column of data to make sure I was working in the correct one. Is there a easier way to do that?

    Yep. I replied to someone else a few days ago that it had vanished on its own from my spreadsheets. Maybe the complaints have to reach a certain threshold before attention is paid and this issue reached that threshold. OTOH, I have used excel for years without ever seeing it and then, one day, it appeared. I googled how to nuke it and only found more annoyed ppl.

    I couldn't agree more. Their patronizing, "we know what you want better than you do" approach is exhausting. "LeT oUr Ai FiX iT fOr YoU" -no thanks Microsoft, you're already giving me enough headaches as it is.

    Don't want to get too excited here, but that extremely annoying popup has now vanished from my spreadsheets! I have no idea why, maybe the trick is to outlast it -- close it enough times (a million, maybe?) and it finally gives up in disgust.

    It was never on all of them, but was always on the ones with the most data, most involved formulae, a large number of sheets -- in fact, the ones that I've worked hardest on and that would suffer the most damage if fiddled with by some AI algorithm that promised to "clean up and fix" things (that was the most insulting thing about it, that I couldn't possibly mean to have such a complex spreadsheet, surely I needed help managing it).

    Wish I could tell all of you who are dealing with this what I did to deserve the reprieve (which I hope lasts). If I ever figure it out you'll be the first to know.

    It is now JUNE 2025.... I am still getting that extremely annoying pop up and like others, am worried that someone else using the file will delete all of my formatting.

    WHY can't Microsoft just fix this? Do they actively enjoy annoying the cr@p out of their users and putting our hard work at risk? EVERYONE WANTS THIS BANNER TO GO AWAY.... and of course Microsoft is just giving us all the finger.

    The Gods must be smiling on you. I've had to close it on 5 sheets today so far.

    Fingers crossed this "feature" gets binned.

    I'm still curious to know if Microsoft can evidence even a single piece of positive feedback for this.
