MS Word Read Aloud voice changes tone

Overnight the option of 2 voices: m/f - both ‘speaking’ as if auditioning for a jr high play - replaced the f voice that was actually appropriate for reading scientific research papers, the reason I pay for ms365 to begin with. 4? Days now trying to reach the ms365 tech support: no response. Is anyone aware of the problem? To the point of addressing it?

To choose your Read Aloud voice:

The female voice changed for me recently, too. This happened on the Word app on android. I do not use read aloud on the desktop. It is very unpleasant and distracting. Honestly, it's awful. I also only have 2 choices: male or female. The previous female voice was the only one that read in a generic, non-distracting way. We don't want "more human" sounding voices that pause and add inflection in weird places. We want a steady, generic voice that helps us listen for information, errors, etc. People aren't having word documents read to them for entertainment. I would like to know if there is a way to get the previous female voice back so I can continue my work without disruption.

Think of it this way... If I paid for spaghetti at a restaurant and halfway through my meal some waiter came by and dumped a bunch of cheese all over my plate under the assumption that everyone wants cheese on their pasta, this would be wrong. Please stop making assumptions and changing our norms. If people didn't like the previous voice, they would have said so.

There are only 2 options available on the mobile app. The female option voice was changed for what appears to be no good reason at all. Now we're stuck with weird reading voice girl.

I'm a big user of Edge's read aloud for PDFs over the years and I've learned some things through experience. First is that Clara, the Canadian, is the best. It's not the most natural sounding but it has the least quirks and is very easy on the ears. When I'm in a mood for entertainment I'll use a South African voice but I never use the American voices. Second is that what voice you get depends on your internet connection. The natural voices are processed in the cloud, so your text is sent up and the audio is sent down. If you go offline or if your connection is laggy, you'll experience shifts to the older voice with the same name. The new ones have the lilt everybody here hates, which is a clear sign that we're all old as the valley girl inflection has become normal in much of the country below a certain age. The new voices are very good; at times I forget it's not a person reading an audio book. It's the accent I don't like, which is why I choose foreigners.
