I rebooted my PC today after a Windows update and afterwards in Word, Excel and PowerPoint my Recent Files list and Pinned Files List are all empty. And when I open an existing document, it does not show up in the Recent file list like it used to.

How do I fix both of these issues?

For those who want to rollback to a previous version of Office 365 here are the directions.

The previous version information is: 3/4/2024 Version 2402 Build 17328.20162

To go further back click the following link and scroll down to "Version History".

You need to make sure you disable updates or the latest version will reinstall at some point.

After deleting the One Drive app, I rebooted, and then opened an Excel sheet and closed it. When I opened Excel again no recent documents.

By the way, the Kapersky full scan finished and no virus or malware found. So I didn't think that was the root cause, but now with doing both a Windows Defender scan and a Kapersky scan of the whole C drive we can rule out viruses.

I did the full online Office Repair and it pulled my short cuts off the Desktop and then put them back in again.

STILL DIDN'T FIX IT AND IT DOWNLOADED ONE DRIVE AGAIN.

I deleted the one drive and tried and it still doesn't have recent files.

Had a long session with Microsoft support. They don't know what the root cause and they want to just uninstalld and reinstall things.

I decided not to do it.

They take forever to type replies. Wasted over an hour.

In the end they told me what they are not responsible for.
