High CPU for multiple processes Microsoft 365

In the last several days I have noticed my laptop CPU fan blowing constantly. The culprit seems to be 4 identical processes using the same amount of CPU as each other continuously hovering at about 8-12%. This keeps the fan blowing 24/7.

The Task Manager shows the Process name as "Microsoft 365 and Office (32 bit)" and no Office applications are running. When I view the details the executable names are "odt____.tmp.exe" with the underscores representing some 3- 4-character hex value, e.g. C67A.

I can end the tasks but they come back after a time and the CPU fan turns on again.

What are these processes and can I turn them off?

TIA

BTW, I tried to include a screenshot, but the image upload doesn't work.

This issue was happening on multiple machines, and I noticed that it was not occurring on my machine, I observed that on the affected machines the office applications were up to date on the latest release. I then proceeded to update office apps on my machine to the latest release and the issue then started to occur on my machine. I am guessing something about the latest office release is causing the issue.

I followed these steps on my machine to roll back to a previous version and it appeared to resolve the problem.

When I opened a ticket, the rep stated the info below and sent me to a different location but when trying to open a ticket there it sends me right back to the standard 365 portal and does not allow a new ticket entry. Not getting anywhere yet. Downgrading is not an option in my opinion and this sisue was present in the next back version anyway.

I manage to confirm your issue in our end. the suggestion of our team is for you to try downgrading the version of Office installation but that is definitely a patch repair. having this said, to get this fixed you will need to get hold of our other team that can assist you with this issue as it is already outside our scope you can create a case from this link Services Hub (microsoft.com) although possible charges may apply.

as much as we would like to help this is already not within our scope. I hope of you consideration with this matter.

    Thank you and stay safe.

In my case, though we do not use Intune we are using a different MDM which uses Choco and I traced it back to setup.exe (one from November that keeps showing back up after deleting so MDM related) in a folder under c:\windows\temp. We do not see ofdeploy running. But big picture this seems to be an instance of O365 for business continuing trying to reinstall/update. I just opened a ticket with MS so one more person reports it. I am afraid the only way to stop it is to stop our MDM from pushing.

We're using Intune, but same behavior. I just restarted my laptop after updating Office and the process started up again, using CPU and launching fan. Temporary workaround is to kill that process. The parent process appears to be ofdeploy.exe.

Add me to the list of people seeing this on NON Intune machines. I stopped the processes and updated Office, but it comes back after a reboot and comes back even after stopping the service.
