Issues with VBA after upgrading to Version 2311 (Build 17029.20108)

Hi, after updating to Version 2311 (Build 17029.20108), we face seriously many issues with our Excel Macro solutions. Something we have never seen before (or at least not for a long period of time). Even things like standard commands like thisworkbook fail. We had to change to 'Monthly Enterprise Channel 2310', which fixed the issue.

Also, it happens on different computers, with different workbooks, so it's not a question about reinstall Excel or something like that.

Btw. We have been working with Macros as our Core business for more than 8 years, and have millions of lines of code. So we normally know what we do.

Is there other people in here which get the same kind of errors with VBA using this version?

All our issue was fixed by rolling back from Version 2311 (Build 17029.20108) to Version 2310 (Build 16924.20180).

We had all kind of weird issue with this Version 2311 (Build 17029.20108).

    Thanks. I have already done this, and are waiting for their response. I just wanted to share this, so other people can see that we have this kind of strange errors with the version of Excel.

As I see it, there are two effective ways to ensure that a macro can run without encountering security conflicts:

    1. Trust the folder where the file is located: By designating a folder as 'trusted,' Excel treats all macros in workbooks from this location as safe. This method is particularly useful for folders where you routinely use macros and are confident in their safety. Steps: File -> Options -> Trust Center -> Trust Center Settings -> Trusted Locations -> Add new location.
    2. Assign the macro with an EV (Extended Validation) Code Signing: Using an EV Code Signing certificate for your macros adds a robust layer of security. It not only confirms the integrity of the code – ensuring it hasn't been altered post-signing – but also verifies the identity of the person or entity that signed the code. This process is essential in a corporate environment to maintain a high standard of security.

    In our company, we are utilizing the second approach. Consequently, all our computers have a certificate listed under 'Trusted Publishers' in 'Manage User Certificates'. This setup ensures that only macros from verified and trusted sources are permitted to run, minimizing the risk of executing malicious code.

    The problem with solution number two, is you then have to make sure all users has this certificate installed, the workbook need to be sign etc. All of with can be quite time consuming.

    Come on Microsoft now all my VBA code in MS Excel Macro sheets do not work after your Update 2311 (Build 17029.20108) upgrade.

    We have had macros running at our site for multiple years and one VBA app I am writing that all of a sudden does not work after the latest upgrade to Version 2311 Update 2311 (Build 17029.20108).

    Programs that have worked for years, all of a sudden give errors without any error message, just your VBA code does not run or you cannot save the file.

    These errors range from not being able to save a work book with VBA code, I remove the code and I can save the Workbook to not running VBA code or CALLing other code like user written function within the same workbook. It is very confusing and easily to found out why and I have to search the web to see if there was n issue and there sure is

    Yes.

    The issue is definitely some form of macro security bug,

    This fixes the issue for a while:

    1. Close Excel completely.
    2. Open and disable macros in the Trust Center settings
    3. Close Excel Completely
    4. Open the file that is having trouble
    5. Recompile the VBA
    6. Save the file
    7. Close excel COmpletely
    8. Open Excel and re-enable Macros
    9. Close Excel
    10. Now your file should work when opened

    The fact that this works means it must be some corruption in the security?
