Excel won't print more than one copy

Friends,

I just downloaded MS Office 365 for Mac. Excel will not let me print more than one copy of a spreadsheet. I spent time on the phone with Canon trying to resolve the issue (I have Canon printers). It is not a Canon issue (they said). Note: I can print as many copies as I want from Word documents. Also, I had no issue with printing multiple copies from Excel Office 2016 for Mac on my older MacBook. The issue seems to be with 365.

On another note: Word 365 messed up a nearly 300 page document I opened from Office 2016. The pagination (formatting or something) is all different. Which, wouldn't be a problem, except that I'm still printing section by section as we go through it and now the page numbers don't align). Though, I can print as many copies as I want, even from this document - just not from Excel.

    The way to tell Microsoft of this issue is to use the Menu Bar and choose Help > Feedback > I Don't Like Something.

    Thank you, will do. Though I would really like a direct resolve for the issue. I will let users know they can try the work around of printing to .pdf and then to print copies.

    having the same problem with a MacBook. using the old excel that I bought several years ago. and a recently created spreadsheet. clearly a programming error. using a brother printer here.

    Can confirm the issue exists on more than Canon printers.

    Excel 365 App, downloaded from the MacOS App Store. Made sure it's the most recent version (yeah, problem still exists).

    User had an Excel document with two Sheets in it, one labelled "Front", one labelled "Back"; each Sheet had a single page with different tables and diagrams laid out on them. The document is used during basketball practice to record student-athletes' workouts and shot records for the practice.

    User likes to print several copies of the document to be used at each practice. The document is printed double-sided to conserve paper and keep things straight as each student-athlete only requires a single page of paper. Excel's default print settings don't allow him to print multiple copies - he can set it to as many as he wants but he always gets only one printout. The departmental printer is a networked Konica Minolta Bizhub C558, the Macs have the latest PostScript driver available from Konica Minolta. My testing was done on a similar Bizhub C368.

    Following Brian Hill5's March 22 2024 advice, we've discovered the following settings allow for multiple copies to print in one shot:

    • In the Excel section, change Print: Active Sheets to Print: Entire Workbook. This puts both Front and Back pages into the print preview, and both pages are checked/selected automatically.
    • Change Pages: Entire Document to Pages: Selection. De-select one of the pages, then re-select it. Repeat for the second page. This seems to be the essential step - simply changing to Pages: Selection doesn't print multiple copies, but de-selecting and re-selecting the pages in the print preview does.
    • Scroll down to Printer Options, click on Layout/Finish, and make sure 2-Sided is selected. This will be different for other printer drivers - we switched from Xerox printers to Konica Minoltas a year ago and I remember Xerox's driver settings were laid out quite differently.

    Finally, he can dial in how many copies of the document he wants and that's how many actually print.

    Microsoft, this isn't a printer driver issue. It's happening on multiple makes & models of printer but only in Excel. One of my work-arounds for my user was to make a PDF of the document and print that, but then when he needs to make changes he has to go back to the original Excel document, make his changes, and make a new PDF, and I guess that happens frequently enough that it gets old fast. The PDF versions, however, would print multiple copies double-sided as the user would expect. We also tested the document copied up to OneDrive and opened in the Excel Web App using Safari, and that would print multiple copies double-sided without having to change to Pages: Selection and de-selecting and re-selecting both pages.

    I did go through the Help-Feedback, selected "I don't like something", and reported the issue.
