Microsoft should be sued class action by users for copying and deleting all files from local computer without notifying the user!!

Same thing happened to me. I thought I was going crazy. I knew I saved several things to my new laptop in early 2023. I created a folder on my OneDrive. After creating all these documents, I didn't need to use them again until this year. I KNEW I saved them. I even save different versions of the documents depending on the name of the company it pertains to. They're all gone. I'm using the "free" OneDrive version with 5GB storage. I didn't even realize that Microsoft was copying my stuff to the cloud and deleting things once I hit my 5GB limit, but it continued to add recent things. I'm a student and part of my things that were deleted were things from my Spring 2023 semester. I am upset. Not sure how this is even legal. The thought never crossed my mind that I'd run out of space on my own laptop that has plenty of storage. I don't care about OneDrive and didn't realize I was even using it when I saved things to Documents. I thought it was saving to my computers hard drive.

I will confirm that you are NOT crazy. It is infuriating to talk to Microsoft "Experts" who say, "OneDrive will keep all your files organized." No sir, it does no such thing.

No, it removed all my files from my local drive!!

You probably have not experienced it; many users have experienced it.

Now they are telling me to zip up each directory from the OneDrive and move it back to the C: drive.

In the first place, MS did not make it clear that files will be deleted from local drive.

Had I know this, I would not have migrated to Microsoft Outlook.

Now I cannot even copy it back, as it made a link to OneDrive and took space and it says I don't have enough space to copy it back to my local drive also!

Without experiencing an issue like this, please don't answer as it is not the case as you say and many users have experienced this and frustrated that Microsoft is inadvertently doing this without proper prior warning. Even an experienced computer savvy guy like me finds it difficult to find files as they are moved!! And now I cannot work locally on a file, if I don't have internet when I travel!

Please go and get some first hand training and understand the problem without making it trivial.

No easy way to copy it back...I had 100's of directories and I don't have the time and patience to copy it back by each zip file and restoring it. If Microsoft did not do this, users wouldn't have to waste their time doing this.

It is not at all trivial. My laptop was blank when I opened around the third day after I decided to buy MS 365. I had some experience as a tech so I was able to bring it back the desktop on my computer but called Microsoft for assistance because the files that are normally under the tree on the left-hand side when you open "My Computer" - on your desktop - all the files that used to be below "This PC" in the tree were no longer there; desktop, documents, pictures, music, videos. They made a shortcut under Home and Gallery. That is when I tried to get my $99.99 back which was like 3 days after I made the HUGE mistake of buying this mess of "uncooked stew", they said no and would not help me break the link. Finally, I got a woman who was helpful stopping the link and at least putting a desktop in the tree where I could actually use on my computer. However it was still taking my pictures, which are private. I had tried to find an older copy of Office or buy a new one from them before I gave in and bought 365. I finally found one and installed it but they removed that too. Well my "Year of Microsoft Hell" is finally over and I had to figure out what was done and download my files myself because I could never get to talk to an agent. There online mess would take me to a link to talk to an agent it said but just kept throwing things at me to tell me how to fix it myself. I just hope I got it all right, since they can't even have the decency to help me. So, I paid $99.99 for a year of stress and total annoyance and didn't even use their **** office. I have used every tool I know of as a computer tech to try to repair, but I am still seeing some things that are not where they are supposed to be. When I get time I will need to rebuild my computer. I do not understand the coldness that I received from Microsoft. Frankly, I am considering buying a MAC. I used to love Microsoft but they are not even trying to be better. That does not move me to buy their computers anymore.
