Left and right margins not aligned to the displayed text

The left and right margins/indents are correctly displayed. I expect that the text should get aligned to these. But, it is shifted towards right.

The file uses "mirror margin." The text on alternate pages are aligned correctly.

Actually, the horizontal ruler is fixed at its place. It should move left and right on alternate pages. This is not happening. Which setting is incorrect?

The mismatch between the ruler display and the actual indentation for odd pages is a known issue in recent versions of Word. As you have found, reverting to an older version of the software will only help temporarily, because of the automatic updates. However, since it is a display issue, only, the easiest approach is to just ignore it for now. (Of course, if you haven't already done so, report the issue via Help > Feedback.)

Disabling automatic update of WORD might solve this problem.

Following my last post on 5.11.23, I can add a footnote to my 'solution' to fix text and horizontal ruler not aligning, by using system restore. This still works, at least for me, but not updating, as I suggested in November, doesn't help. The problem inexorably returns, in its own time and irregularly, but cannot be permanently solved. I'm having to system restore at irregular intervals, just to keep working. The change back to bad alignment occurs totally randomly.

Nothing, other than sending a frown to Microsoft, which many of us have done, though they are not listening (or, they have not been able to correct this, so far).

Meanwhile, it can be assumed that if the margin is correct on even pages, it would automatically be correct on odd pages. Simply ignore the displayed margin on odd pages. While this assumption is fine for plain text, it poses difficulty when one wants to adjust the size of an inserted image to the maximum width. In such cases, match the width of the image with the width of the displayed text. The other way can be to note the offset in the displayed margin, and adjust the width of the image accordingly.

There is nothing you can do. As Stefan says in a later post, the issue has been reported to Microsoft and is being investigated. You can add your voice by sending feedback directly from the application.
