Stop Office BACKUP THIS DOCUMENT prompt

The scripts shown in posts on pages 3 and 8 are very effective at blocking the banner, but occasionally I still get it. It happens rarely enough to be no more than a mild nuisance, however.

But given Microsoft's slow rollout of higher subscription fees to pay for their AI whether we use it or not, along with trying to force us to use OneDrive, I'm seriously considering a more radical solution: LibreOffice. It's free, able to read and write docx etc (although there are reports of some glitches), has almost the same functionality (though I'm having trouble reproducing one of my macros), and did I mention it's free?

Also Microsoft 365 has a free web version (with reduced functionality), but I have reservations about using it, an obvious reason being that our documents would be on their servers and can't be backed up in a manner we control.

My problem with LibreOffice and the other open source versions of Office is the outright thievery involved. I'm sure MS didn't spend millions (billions?) on developing Office over the years just for a bunch of basement coders to rip off their IP and build an exact copy.

Actually, Libre Office is NOT an exact copy. It lacks many of Microsoft's valuable *** features, such as commercial advertisements popping up while you are working, constant nagging to submit all of your work to Microsoft (one drive) for them to mine for behavioral models, the "research" pain that always pops up when you don't want it and cannot be killed, etc.

Did you know that there are whole operating systems other than Windows? Of course many of them are logically defective and cannot possibly work because they do not have a 3000 petabyte registry where spyware and adware can hide.

You misunderstand what Microsoft is selling. Their actual merchandise is YOU. Their software is merely bait on a hook to catch you.

Amazon and Google aren't any better. When I use them, I always start with "Hollywood Marxist nose ring amputation torture cannibal snuff ****" just to get their attention.

@malcom, you could say the same about MS "ripping off" WordPerfect or WP 'ripping off' WordStar before it. Or Excel moving in on Lotus 1-2-3 and 1-2-3 taking over from Visicalc. In fact Excel used to have 'a trick' where (from vaugue memory) you hid all colums and all rows and clicked bottom right and it would scroll a message about killing 1-2-3! Or Exhange aggressively going after Notes, and so it goes on. Is your objection to LibreOffice being freeware?
