A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data.
Thanks for the post VanKnowles. I use One-Drive a lot, so I wouldn't want to uninstall it. I'll look into the command/PowerShell solution.

Excel and Word keep displaying a banner when I open a file "BACKUP THIS DOCUMENT - Access this file anywhere with OneDrive included in your subscription"
I have a backup system I use that I like and I don't need OneDrive to backup my files. How do I get OneDrive/Office 365/Windows to stop giving me this prompt?
I click the "X" or Schedule Backup Later to make the banner go away, but it just comes back a little while later. I've opened up the OneDrive app from the system tray and unselected everything from the OneDrive backup, but none of this helps and the prompt keeps coming back.
How do I get this to stop?

oh **** in the ****
Yeah well MS is out to make money. "Free" backup with 365 - tie you in - then oh- you've run out of room or your subscription runs out. No problem. Pay the cash.
Shaft me baby.
Ha ha good luck with that. Libre is the best alternative I have found and despite being "mostly" Office compatible it sill mungs some of the less conventional page layouts (i.e. anything in tables, or columns, or with embedded pictures, or spreadsheet segments, or, well anything not straight text, pretty much). And yeah, it is quite slow to start up initially but once loaded isn't too bad - not in my experience, anyway.
There's another quite promising suite called WPS that I haven't had a chance to do any kind of in-depth testing on but it does look nicer than Libre (my opinion. YMMV).
Lots of comparisons available (distrust anyone who says OpenOffice is any good though. That fork has all but fizzled out and hasn't been updated regularly for a couple of years) - they all seem to think Libre is the best of the bunch: -

I don't think that MicroSoft knows this.
It's irritating and very confusing, and ... I get the same question when closing a saved file and I do not have 365 but am using 2021 and don't have OneDrive activated as such
I wonder what they'll come up with next
Wow.. this thread has been running a year and MS doing nothing. This is 100% for their benefit, not mine or anyone else's, make you more reliant on MS, period!
Cmon Microsoft, give us a solution to this, tired of my docs ending up in One Drive by accident as the banner perfectly placed to click by mistake. This is underhanded, deceitful way of doing things. I do not want to mess around with registry of the other 30 machines we have. Sort it out.
