Stop Office BACKUP THIS DOCUMENT prompt

This is just venting.I apologise in advance for the potty mouth, but Iam so effin frustrated with Microsoft Office.
For one, I have MANY interlinked excel files.
These all get corrupted the moment it is loaded to onedrive, so I keep them on my Hard drive. It has not changed in 8 years since i started using Microsoft Clouds (I attempt it often)
It always effs up my formulas (huge huge huge quantities of formulas ) so I know not to bother.
I find 1D useful and use it for general file sharing and working across devices, but in many instances it just effs up all my work.
I have a small business with only a few staff and do not need an entire IT department. I know my way around most of Windows, however I dont plan on playing around registries and Powershell and what-nots, because it shouldnt be necessary - the effing MS Office should allow you to choose what you want to do with your files, and not force their systems on you.
For instance, all my staff PCs run Outlook with POP3 accounts, located on their hard drives.
I have threatened my staff all with the wrath of a thousand demons if one of them select the stupid backup pop-up in word and excel, but inevitably it happens, and then it moves ALL their files including outlook.pst to a onedrive folder, which then results in their outlook emails getting corrupted or just simply stop working.
WE LIVE IN A COUNTRY WITH LOADSHEDDING AND DONT ALWAYS HAVE INTERNET, SO ONEDRIVE EFFFFFFS UP EVERYTHING.
I've had to fix 3 of these PCs so far, and it takes many hours to restore everything to its original place, resetting email passwords and deleting duplicates. This 1D folder is like a fkn demon that just wont go away, and the path also magically looks like MyComputer/Documents and does not show up as mycomputer/onedrive/Documents

It also moves their desktop files and it is ANNOYING. On certain staff pcs i've completely uninstalled 1D. Guess what? When windows updates, 1D misteriously resurfaces, and asks to backup files once again.
FFS microsoft!!! let me save what i need to in 1D, and let me use my hard drive for what i want to, and dont try and manipulate me into using 1D. I run backups on my HDD files to a separate system. Your forcing this 1d thing on me is going to be the death of me.
or at least give me the option to select "NEVER EVER GIVE ME POP-UPS EVER" when you run an update.

I couldn't agree with you more! Like you, I don't want files on my hard drive uploaded to OneDrive. ALL of my computer battles have been with OneDrive since I began using it.

Yesterday I was in the process of copying a batch of movies from an external hard drive to OneDrive and it was one disaster after another. Finally, I decided to stop the process, deleted the folders on OneDrive where the movies were being uploaded to. OneDrive indicated that everything was synced and AOK afterwards. Today, I see the folders are back and the movies are there. The external hard drive was no longer connected!!! I did not request a restore. So how does that happen????

I find these messages irritating too.

How do I uninstall OneDrive.

Can I do this without losing my files in documents and desktop.

Can I uninstall for me and not for my wife on her logon ?

You can uninstall OneDrive like any other program - go to Settings / Apps and Features, and then finding it in the list of apps and taking the uninstall option.

Regarding your Documents and Desktop folders ... if you right-click on Desktop in Windows Explorer and then look under the Location tab, it will tell you the physical location of that folder. It defaults to c:\users[username]\desktop, BUT if you have opted for OneDrive's so called automatic backup (which is nothing of the kind), then OneDrive may have changed the location to itself - i.e. c:\users[username]\onedrive\desktop. If that is the case then you need to move the desktop folder back to the default, or to some other location outside OneDrive, BEFORE uninstalling OneDrive. To do that, in the Desktop folder properties window, click Location, then Move.

Same goes for the Documents folder.

Please note that uninstalling OneDrive does not delete your data held on the Onedrive cloud. It simply removes the Explorer "plugin" so that you cannot directly access OneDrive as a folder in Windows. But if you go to https://onedrive.live.com and sign in, you'll see all your files are still there.

Sorry, I have no idea whether it's possible to uninstall OneDrive for one user and leave it installed for another. Knowing Microsoft, it might work or it might not. My advice would be to uninstall it for all users, and use a free Dropbox (or other similar cloud) account instead. That's what I did, and it is the only way, it appears, to get rid of these stupid prompts.

All the above applies to Windows 10 - haven't a clue what happens in 11.
