What does it take to get help from Microsoft, on Microsoft products, in a Microsoft forum?
It's been two weeks now without any useful help.
You must be new here, lol. There is never a response from any Microsoft employee. Generally, someone comes along touting their great knowledge and MVP certification credentials to say something really super technical and helpful like "have you tried turning it off and back on again?" or to recommend "sfc /scannow" followed by resetting or reloading windows. Doesn't matter what the problem is, the answers are always the same cut+paste non-answers.
The only time there is real help here -- is when someone with the problem finds a solution elsewhere and shares it here with the rest of us experiencing the same problem.
The "Backup this Document" prompt is not only annoying, but also horribly (and I assume deliberately) misleading. Onedrive isn't a "backup", it's a mirror, meaning if a file gets deleted, corrupted, destroyed or malware-encrypted -- the "backup" on Onedrive is also trashed. Second, clicking it doesn't "backup this document"; rather it moves all your user folders to Onedrive, syncs them all to the cloud, which may then be followed by an email telling you "Your Onedrive Storage is full, please subscribe $$$$$ for more!".
There should be (and may be) a GPO to turn it off, but I have yet to find any documentation leading to that.
