Excel and Word keep displaying a banner when I open a file "BACKUP THIS DOCUMENT - Access this file anywhere with OneDrive included in your subscription"
I have a backup system I use that I like and I don't need OneDrive to backup my files. How do I get OneDrive/Office 365/Windows to stop giving me this prompt?
I click the "X" or Schedule Backup Later to make the banner go away, but it just comes back a little while later. I've opened up the OneDrive app from the system tray and unselected everything from the OneDrive backup, but none of this helps and the prompt keeps coming back.
How do I get this to stop?

I am uninstalling OneDrive and changing Word/Excel settings to always put everything in local documents folder.
You are mistaken. Microsoft does care!
Microsoft wants your work in One Drive so they can fuze it with other data they have on you, such as browser mouse clicks. Then they analyze all that with AI and develop a predictive psychological profile on you for sale to advertisers, police agencies, foreign governments, and other evil entities.
Microsoft is not your friend. Perhaps it is time let them go their merry way and switch to an alternate product. Google is no better. I mentioned ED in an e-mail, and suddenly I am getting all these sleazy ads for products whose opposite I occasionally could benefit from. Remember: you are government property, and they can observe you without limitation. Privacy? Read your privacy policy. At the bottom is fine print saying that they can modify it at their own pleasure at any time without notifying you.

I have done that on all PCs here, and don't miss OneDrive at all. The cloud storage is still there if I need to use it for sharing large files, etc.
This is hardly a solution. It's not even a workaround unless you have no cloud plans at all.
OneDrive is (well, was) quite an elegant cloud solution until MS got all control freak and decided to make it try to do %*^$# everything. Doesn't seem to be possible to set it to just be there for you to save stuff to at your own discretion - the moment it's there, it wants control over your home folders, your "save" location, everything.
Damn annoying. But removing it leaves you with only the web interface, which is clunky at best and fails when you try to do bulk up- or downloads so you have to do them in small quantities. And it creates ZIP files for downloads which is extra time-consuming and a complete waste when you are moving JPGs.
