One Drive Not Working with Mac OS 14 Sonoma

This works for me. We have to download the OneDrive app from App Store but not using the one downloaded from microsoft.com.

Here is what finally worked for me:

1. Remove the current App and Data from my Mac.
2. Download the App from the Mac App Store - A new one was released just a week ago. (23.199.0924)
3. Reinstall and Sync again all data
4. Restart my Mac

Note: I've tried the solution in the Thread above (going through the built-in Reset Command, but it did not work). I tried the version of OneDrive from the MS website which seemed even newer (23.211.1010) and it didn't sync (always asking me to restart the OneDrive App).

I have the exact same issue after I upgraded to Mac Sonoma 14 (14.1.2). M1 Mac mini. I have been running Onedrive (standalone version) from an external SSD Drive and post upgrade of OS, I started getting the “You must restart OneDrive to continue syncing this location” on the finder window. I have resolved the issue by moving the Onedrive folder to Mac internal SSD vs. external SSD.

Steps taken

1. Quit onedrive
2. Run ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command from /Applications/OneDrive.app (right click)/Contents/Resources
3. Delete Onedrive Application
4. Download the latest standalone Onedrive application for Mac and install - Select your new Onedrive location in your Mac internal SSD

this has resolved the issue for me.

It seems Sonoma is not able to run Onedrive application from an external drive. Even when I selected the external drive for Onedrive location as part of installation, the Onedrive folder got created in my external SSD is an alias to a internal "Onedrive - Personal" folder from Mac SSD. The fix has to come from Microsoft as most users use the external drive with a larger capacity to keep files on the disk.

I also have struggled with this issue for days now. I tried everything recommended in this and other threads I found but nothing prevented the "you must restart Onedrive..." warning from coming back, and the same behaviors I see others have had here.

As a last move I decided to reset Onedrive using the terminal command and "unlink this mac" then signed back in using all default settings.

This now has stopped the erratic behavior and has kept the "you must restart.." banner away.

I can now see all my files through Finder and work with them.

Unfortunately this puts my Onedrive folder (over 500GB) on my root HD for my Mac Studio M2 2023 which is annoyingly only 500GB. So I have no choice but to use the Files on Demand feature of Onedrive. Even with this turned on I expect to have problems since I work with a lot of image files and of course have other programs on this drive.

I hope Microsoft figures out how to effectively let us use external drives with Onedrive on mac Sonoma, otherwise I will also be moving to another cloud file service.
