losing formatting when copying from Excel Web

I am on Windows 10 and have tried this on both Chrome and Edge.

I have certain shared Excel files that I access through Excel Web. Prior to today, I could copy/paste the data from Excel Web to Outlook Desktop and it would keep the source formatting (both text and table design).

Now, it is pasting as a table but without any text formatting or table design. I am losing all the formatting when I:

  • copy from Excel Web in Chrome to Outlook Desktop
  • copy from Excel Web in Edge to Outlook Desktop
  • copy from Excel Web in Chrome to Outlook Web in Chrome
  • copy from Excel Web in Chrome to Excel Web in Edge (or the reverse)

The only instance when it retains the formatting is when I am copying from Excel Web to Excel Web in the same browser (either Chrome or Edge).

    I also have the same issue.

    As at 4th July, I can no longer copy and paste (control C & Control V) from a shared excel sheet in Microsoft Teams to any other source (eg, desktop excel, outlook) WITHOUT losing formatting.

    What's the issue?  It worked fine beforehand.

    Formatting getting lost from Excel Web to anywhere

    Working like it should from Excel Desktop

    Same here. Reported by a few users today July 6th.

    The formatting is getting lost when copying from Excel Online to Outlook.

    Copying works with formatting from Excel Desktop app.

    Hi,

    At my workplace we are all having the same issue as of this morning July 6th.

    This is when copying from the web based version of the excel sheet, ie via SharePoint. When copied from the desktop version of the same sheet, there are no problems. This only started happening this morning.

    It is causing a big problem and having read the thread it seems like this is potentially a global or country wide issue. A real response from Microsoft on this would be greatly appreciated. It seems like something has changed and once again made things worse. Why fix something that's not broken seems to be a common theme at the moment.

    Microsoft, please can we have some updates either on how to fix this issue or let us know if it is a Microsoft issue and will be getting resolved.

    We have also found this new feature today - copying from Excel app into teams chat - all formatting is lost and data is all in one row.

    Copying from desktop version of Excel365 keeps table format, but strips cell colour, width etc.
