One Note keeps switching from drawing (Apple Pencil) to Text Mode. I am using the App on an iPad.

Upgrading to iOS 16.4.1 did not solve the issue for me.

Even turning off scribble doesn’t work effectively. In trying to select a pencil colour I am repeatedly fighting against OneNote trying to force text mode on.

My reproduction steps would even be as simple as opening any page typing in a header, then starting to use an Apple Pencil 2 on the page.

If I change to the lasso tool first, then select a pencil colour I have more success but it is temporary and text mode will always try and force itself on.

My device is an iPad Pro 3rd generation.

This bug really does render OneNote unusable for pencil note taking.

I have the same issue. I am using an iPad Air 5 and I updated to 16.4.1 and turned off Scribble but every time I want to switch to the eraser or a different colour pencil, it switches to Text mode.

Please first check whether you have updated the version number of the iOS to 16.4.1. If no, I suggest you update the version number , restart the iPad and then open the OneNote app to see whether the issue goes away in your environments.

If the issue persists in your environments, I suggest you use the built-in Feedback option to report the issue to our related team as soon as possible.

Dear Shayna,

I suggest you first turn off both Draw Mode and Text Mode, reset the OneNote app via the steps in Reset Microsoft OneNote between users on a shared iPad or iPhone - Microsoft Support, restart the iPad and then re-open the OneNote app on your iPad, enable Draw Mode to see if the issue goes away in your environment.
