Word is very laggy when modifying styles

I am experiencing a very strange behavior in Word. The app becomes very unstable and slow to respond when I have the styles editing view open. This is the only time that I can tell when this slow behavior occurs. In all other respects, Word appears to be working properly, with no lagging or other issues. I have tried the online repair tool, and even uninstalling and reinstalling Word via Microsoft 365. So far, nothing has solved the problem. This issue only recently started, and I have no idea why or how to fix it. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

All,

I have contacted Grammarly and they have come back to me with the news that they have been able to replicate the behavior and have submitted the case to their developers. They have also stated that it might take a little bit of time to get it fixed. In the meantime, for those who cannot live without it, there is a Grammarly application called 'Grammarly for Microsoft Office' that is actually working (I have tested it myself and seems to be working all right). The other temporary action you may take short of uninstalling the app is to disable it by clicking on its logo and selecting the Options button, and then clicking 'Turn off suggestions in...'.

Hope all helps until a permanent fix is available.

You are not the first user to report this problem. Since no one seems to have a solution, you should report it to Microsoft using File | Feedback.

Thank you for your response. I initially thought an add-in might be causing the issue. So, I tried both disabling and then completely removing all add-ins. Neither approach solved the issue. I don't, then, think it is an add-in issue.

As you requested, here is a screenshot of my account page, with private information redacted. I also included a screenshot of the dialog box that is open when the lag starts. Strangely, it is only this dialog box, the modify style dialog box that seems to be an issue.

    Dear Trevor,

As the issue only arose recently, may I know what you did before the issue occurred?

Are there some add-ins installed on Word? If yes, I suggest you temporarily disable all add-ins and then restart Word to see if that is the root cause.

Meanwhile, please upload a full screenshot of the Account page in the Word application you are using for our reference. You can access the page via clicking on File>Account.

Note: remove any private information before uploading the screenshots.

    Sincerely
