Selecting a cell in Excel goes to an incorrect cell

Thanks Joshua, that sounds a great idea. I'm not super-technical so not tried anything that involved.

Yes, I get anxious whenever using Excel now, especially for reports, items 

where the data has to be right. It's massively affected my day-to-day working life and caused me a great deal of stress. I tried the web version but it's not the same, and has its own

bugs.

I'll have to do more testing on NORMAL mode. I'm going to see if I can write a VB script to give me a "debugging window" to show me what is happening when I'm using Excel. If VB won't work, I'll switch over to C# and see if I can do it there. This issue happens so frequently that I'm starting to dread using Excel now but have no choice.

I'll update you on if I get the script working and will send you over a copy to try it on your end. Maybe if we give Microsoft this data they will be able to better understand the issue and repair it.

It's happening for me in Normal mode from the start. The workaround you suggest works for me also, I've seen various ideas similar to this. Some people seem to minimise/maximise, or close/open etc. I scroll the display rapidly up and down a few times, this can help.

Also interesting to note that during this time, two other display anomalies manifested:

1. The row numbers at the side disappear and are revealed as you hover over them (not happening so much lately).
2. If I drag the worksheet with the cursor near the left or top margins, so that a grey band appears relative to how far I've dragged, it sometimes doesn't 'snap back' into place, so the display can be a large block of grey shading, and the remaining rows/columns still visible.

These issues appeared around the same time as the main issue.

I (and seemingly others) have tried dozens of things, trial and error, to find the cause of this, but I've never been successful. I've spent many hours on it (in addition to repairing on-screen data inadvertently affected by the issue).

Just curious, when excel starts "acting up" as I like to call it, are you in PAGE LAYOUT mode? I have also notice if I scroll down and then back up, the header is only partially shown. I have to click in the header to make it visible.

Also when it starts acting up, open a new sheet in the current work book and click in the blank cells randomly a few times. When you go back to the original sheet, does it temporarily correct it?

I'm going to do some more testing on my end to see if I can narrow it down to a particular instance to see if it will help Chris and Microsoft figure it out.

This is an employer issued device and they handle all updates. I imagine we've had numerous updates since then, certainly I see Windows behaviour changing on a continual basis. As mentioned, we've tried different laptops and Windows O/S versions, we've also tried changing the build within O/S version. I'm not using anything like remote desktop, it's a very basic, simple setup.

There are dozens of cases on your own forums and other forums, so it I hope it will be possible to replicate your side. I'm not the only one in my organisation to encounter it but not everyone reports such things.

Note: this issue occurred very suddenly, out of the blue. So for me, that would be about a year ago. So perhaps it is possible to evaluate the changes made to Windows versions at that time and narrow down from there?
