Issue reported multiple times for several years:
When selecting a cell in Excel, the cell selected is in a different location to where the user's cursor is. Issue leads to massive amount of lost productivity and causes serious errors in data.
Reported multiple times recently, no response from MS other than to report it to Feedback Hub (again).
The bug renders Excel totally unfit for purpose, for customers paying for it.
The bug should be fixed immediately, treated as high priority.

Coming up for a year since I raised this, and I was by no means the first, Microsoft must be able to isolate the point at which this happened, and analyse the changes which caused it.
It is absolutely disgusting.
This issue has nothing to do with the touchpad. It has to do with the X and Y coordinates of the cells in relation to the mouse pointer.
So, my test with an entirely new worksheet and barely any content has triggered the issue almost immediately. I've sent the feedback, including the file, to Chris Hammond.
The problem is related the grid in the software. It just gets lost. I did notice something that ALL my machines do when this happens. The cell that is click selected is always higher (negative pixel location) than the cell that is actually clicked on.
For all of us that have this problem confirm that is the case for you as well?
For me it can be the other way round also. I'm currently starting a new worksheet from scratch and seeing if anything in particular triggers it, as I gradually add content.
The issue happens so often for me, that resizing or changing windows isn't workable. I use the laptop keyboard, so the quickest "solution" for me is a few up/down swipes on the touchpad. Usually this resets it, though in an affected file the issue usually returns very quickly.
