Selecting a cell in Excel goes to an incorrect cell

Issue reported multiple times for several years:

When selecting a cell in Excel, the cell selected is in a different location to where the user's cursor is. Issue leads to massive amount of lost productivity and causes serious errors in data.

Reported multiple times recently, no response from MS other than to report it to Feedback Hub (again).

The bug renders Excel totally unfit for purpose, for customers paying for it.

The bug should be fixed immediately, treated as high priority.

Steps already tried:

  • Regress Office version.
  • Rebuild laptop altogether.
  • Change laptop altogether.
  • Try Safe Mode.
  • Reset scaling to 100% on all monitors in use, and reboot.
  • General driver updates.
  • Try touchpad instead of mouse, change mouse.

    Tin,

I've already reported it via the Feedback Hub more than once, I've seen no response and been provided no update.

Please liaise with higher levels as applicable in order to provide a meaningful response and update. This remains a quite appalling situation.

    Thank you,

    Tom V

    Dear Tom Vanheems,

    Good day!

I understand the mood very well. We are also very sorry for the long-term trouble caused to you by this phenomenon.

Due to the differences in the local environment, it is really difficult for us to copy the problems you have encountered here, and considering that you want to communicate directly with the developer, we suggest that you can use the Feedback function in the application, your feedback will be sent directly to the developer.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

I already said, only two messages ago, I don't have permissions to change the channel or use the link you provided.

You need to be confirming to me that the devs are working on this and you should supply a fix date. I understand you need to speak with higher authority to do this, please go ahead.

This is a known issue affecting multiple users, I should not need to be asked to open a support ticket. The issue exists for several years, it's up to MS to replicate and fix it.

I'm staggered, absolutely lost for words at how utterly shambolic and shameful this is.

    Dear Tom Vanheems,

    Good day!

I understand your mood very well.

Given that you continue to experience this behavior, it is also possible that the app under this update channel is causing conflicts with some local environments, causing such a display issue.

We also attach great importance to this issue in order to further explore the causes of this phenomenon, we kindly recommended you can raise a service request in Microsoft 365 admin center, which the support there has the related permission and resource to help you check from the backend. They can also help you collect activity logs of your Office app runtime so you can drill down into why.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Microsoft:

Please confirm this is with the developers?

Please confirm when a fix will be deployed?

This must be resolved with urgency.
