Selecting a cell in Excel goes to an incorrect cell

We've identified a reproduceable case involving scrolling with the Touchpad in which Excel screws up calculating the offset to the top of the grid. This bug is in the process of being fixed. Does this sound similar to the issue you're seeing?

One thing that would be particularly helpful to us is if you could submit feedback directly through Excel. Use the little feedback button in the upper right corner. Include a screenshot or the workbook and your email. Mention my name.

Hi Chris,

Please urgently update on this? It absolutely must be resolved. This is causing ongoing loss of efficiency and errors in our Excel data due to unknowingly making mistakes due to the wrong cells selected.

Thanks Joshua, that sounds a great idea. I'm not super-technical so not tried anything that involved.

Yes, I get anxious whenever using Excel now, especially for reports, items 

where the data has to be right. It's massively affected my day-to-day working life and caused me a great deal of stress. I tried the web version but it's not the same, and has its own

bugs.

Hi Joshua,

It's happening for me in Normal mode from the start. The workaround you suggest works for me also, I've seen various ideas similar to this. Some people seem to minimise/maximise, or close/open etc. I scroll the display rapidly up and down a few times, this can help.

Also interesting to note that during this time, two other display anomalies manifested:

1. The row numbers at the side disappear and are revealed as you hover over them (not happening so much lately).
2. If I drag the worksheet with the cursor near the left or top margins, so that a grey band appears relative to how far I've dragged, it sometimes doesn't 'snap back' into place, so the display can be a large block of grey shading, and the remaining rows/columns still visible.

These issues appeared around the same time as the main issue.

I (and seemingly others) have tried dozens of things, trial and error, to find the cause of this, but I've never been successful. I've spent many hours on it (in addition to repairing on-screen data inadvertently affected by the issue).

Just curious, when excel starts "acting up" as I like to call it, are you in PAGE LAYOUT mode? I have also notice if I scroll down and then back up, the header is only partially shown. I have to click in the header to make it visible.

Also when it starts acting up, open a new sheet in the current work book and click in the blank cells randomly a few times. When you go back to the original sheet, does it temporarily correct it?

I'm going to do some more testing on my end to see if I can narrow it down to a particular instance to see if it will help Chris and Microsoft figure it out.
