Selecting a cell in Excel goes to an incorrect cell

Issue reported multiple times for several years:

When selecting a cell in Excel, the cell selected is in a different location to where the user's cursor is. Issue leads to massive amount of lost productivity and causes serious errors in data.

Reported multiple times recently, no response from MS other than to report it to Feedback Hub (again).

The bug renders Excel totally unfit for purpose, for customers paying for it.

The bug should be fixed immediately, treated as high priority.

Steps already tried:

  • Regress Office version.
  • Rebuild laptop altogether.
  • Change laptop altogether.
  • Try Safe Mode.
  • Reset scaling to 100% on all monitors in use, and reboot.
  • General driver updates.
  • Try touchpad instead of mouse, change mouse.

    Dear Tom Vanheems,

    Good day!

I understand the mood very well. We are also very sorry for the long-term trouble caused to you by this phenomenon.

Due to the differences in the local environment, it is really difficult for us to copy the problems you have encountered here, and considering that you want to communicate directly with the developer, we suggest that you can use the Feedback function in the application, your feedback will be sent directly to the developer.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Dear Tom Vanheems,

    Good day!

I understand your mood very well.

Given that you continue to experience this behavior, it is also possible that the app under this update channel is causing conflicts with some local environments, causing such a display issue.

We also attach great importance to this issue in order to further explore the causes of this phenomenon, we kindly recommended you can raise a service request in Microsoft 365 admin center, which the support there has the related permission and resource to help you check from the backend. They can also help you collect activity logs of your Office app runtime so you can drill down into why.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Microsoft:

Please confirm this is with the developers?

Please confirm when a fix will be deployed?

This must be resolved with urgency.

    Tin Zhang.

No, I don't have permissions to change the channel or use the link you provided, please continue the investigation here.

You mentioned failure to replicate the issue on your side, but unless you're one of the developers, I'm not sure what that would achieve anyway? The issue objectively exists, for multiple users, and has done for some time. Are you implying this hasn't even reached the developers for attention yet?

This is absolutely urgent, this is key functionality and renders Excel - the most commonly used app for many of us - useless.

Please respond and update on what's happening with this? This should be with the developers, being fixed, immediately.

    Thanks,

    Tom Vanheems

    Dear Tom Vanheems,

Good day! Sorry for my late reply..

I haven't encountered a similar situation in my tests here。

I've also tested multiple versions of Office apps, and I've noticed that the update channel for your Office app is Monthly Enterprise Channel, can you switch to Current Channel if you're still experiencing this behavior if it's convenient for you.

If it is not convenient for you to switch this update channel, or if you find that you still experience this behavior after updating to Current Channel, we kindly recommended you can raise a service request in Microsoft 365 admin center, which the support there has the related permission and resource to help you check from the backend. They can also remotely assist you in analyzing your app's activity logs.

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,
