OneDrive's recent update 23061.0319 doesn't open on Mac (Catalina v10.15.7)

Dear Support Team

As a result of the recent OneDrive update 23061.0319 (installed on my Mac on the 1st of Apr 2023) OneDrive app won't sync or open on my MacBook Pro (Catalina v10.15.7).

Despite following the steps as (as published in Microsoft Support Centre and also Microsoft Community) OneDrive won't open or function at all.

My feeling is that the new update creates an issue with the Catalina Operating system which unable it to open/function/sync..

Therefore, OneDrive is not working appropriately.

In order to resolve the matter I have followed the below steps and no luck:

Would be highly appreciated if you provide some guidance on the matter.

-Step1:

Try resetting the app."Quit OneDrive.     I have a fairly homemade solution but it worked for me.

    1- Uninstall the app, move the application app to the trash.

    2- Install version 23.002.0102.0004.

    3- Open the activity monitor and filter by the Update process

    4- When the app starts, a OneDrive Update process appears, close it forcefully. I think it appears twice, close it.

    Then login to the app, it shouldn't close.

    The key is to kill the upgrade process that is running in the background and close it. This at least the first time.

    To prevent that Update process from running again, I did the following:

    Navigate to the Applications folder on your Mac and find the OneDrive application.

    Right-click on the OneDrive application and select "Show Package Contents."

    From there, go to the Contents

    Find the Ondrive Update process, add your user as the owner of the process and set it as "blocked". Also remove system permissions on said executable.

    Also in the app settings, disable the application from opening when I log in, so at least until Microsoft resolves the error, I will open the app along with the activity monitor open and make sure that the update process does not run .

    Thanks Pablo! This fixed it for now. It was easy to install and force quit the updaters. I can't figure out how to make my user the only owner of the process and then "block" it, but I have removed it from the startup menu. I'll just manually launch it and watch for the updater in Activity Monitor.

    It would be very welcome if MSFT would release a fix for this bug. Like most of you, I'm relying on OneDrive and it's BS that I need to upgrade my desktop to keep using it. :/

    Wonderful, thank you Pablo - this seems to work (at least for now).

    Following Dirk Stevens1 - could you (Pablo or any other) perhaps give us more detailed instructions on how to "add your user as the owner of the process and set it as "blocked""? I tried, following Robert Brineks solution - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/onedrive-will-not-run-macos-catalina-10157/ddb9a0d0-09ac-4ff6-bfd6-0b1629c391ab?page=5 - to simply delete the "updater" files, but this caused OneDrive to crash.
