Dear Support Team

As a result of the recent OneDrive update 23061.0319 (installed on my Mac on the 1st of Apr 2023) OneDrive app won't sync or open on my MacBook Pro (Catalina v10.15.7).

Despite following the steps as (as published in Microsoft Support Centre and also Microsoft Community) OneDrive won't open or function at all.

My feeling is that the new update creates an issue with the Catalina Operating system which unable it to open/function/sync..

Therefore, OneDrive is not working appropriately.

In order to resolve the matter I have followed the below steps and no luck:

Would be highly appreciated if you provide some guidance on the matter.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards

DR

    Hi Yogesh, all,

Agreed, the fix described above whereby the update file(s) have their access permissions changed to stop them updating works well, but I notice it only works for a 24hr period and then something else happens that updates the version, therefore I'm having to perform this fix on a daily basis which is become a nuisance.

If anyone has a further fix to stop the daily update in lieu of MS getting their act together and providing a permanent fix, that would be good to know.

I have struggled with the same issue on both my MacMini and MacBook Pro - both running Catalina 10.15.7

Today, MSFT support engineer asked me to run a script that removes ALL licenses for Microsoft and then restarted and tried to install OneDrive from the link he provided.

    Unfortunately, the issue persists.

Its critical that the issue is resolved!

Microsoft messed up the OneDrive updater and silently dropped support for macOS Catalina users. OneDrive is a terrible piece of software. It is slow, it is poorly designed and optimised, Auto-Updates are unpredictable and bundled with buggy features. How could this release even pass the quality assurance? Users have to find all kinds of workarounds to prevent Auto-Updates. The best thing is to move on and get rid of OneDrive.

Hi, tried to provide the answer here, but couldn't. So entered it into a different location, here:

Hope it works for others too.

It also works with version 23.054.0313.0003 (Standalone). The key seems to be to prevent the "updater" from running (per your suggestion via the Activity Monitor), which seems to install the "Rolling out" release 23.061.0319.0003 — which is the one that fails with Catalina. The App Store version has already been updated to 23.061.0319.0003, which is why that also does not work with Catalina. On my Mac, both 23.002.0102.0004 and 23.054.0313.0003 work, with the newer 054 version seeming to work smoother (less rainbow pinwheel time). Thus, it seems that the 23.054 version is the last version that'll work with Catalina (10.15).

Thanks. Version 23.054 worked for me. :-) https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=823060
