OneDrive Will Not Run MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

I have had Office 365, including OneDrive running on this Mac for several years. Yesterday, OneDrive updated itself (I have the Microsoft AutoUpdater set to automatically download and install updates) to version 23.061.0319. Following that update, it will not run.

I click on the icon in the launchpad, nothing happens

I click on the icon within Finder->Applications, nothing happens

I do not get an error message, there is nothing in the system log, it does not show up in application monitor, it seems to be just dead.

Here is what the system says about the OneDrive.app:

If I run Microsoft AutoUpdate, this is what it shows for Microsoft products:

None of the Office products is up to date (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook). They are all on version 16.66 because the next version, 16.71 requires an OS Update, which will never come, because this macbook (Macbook Air, mid 2012) is too old and Catalina 10.15.7 is the most upgraded it can get.

Only OneDrive is up to date, v23061.0319, installed yesterday on 4/3/2023.

What can I do to get back to a previous version of OneDrive so that it works??? This sucks that it did not recognize that the most current version is not compatible with my laptop.

    0.0.0.0. worked just fine for me but i'm going to edit my original post regardless

    Yeah strange, every time I do the ping test with 0.0.0.0. in my hosts file I always get a reply back from the Microsoft Update servers. I tried restarting as well thinking maybe that's why it didn't work for me but I was still getting the same result after a restart.

    When I remove the fullstop after the last 0 then my ping test times out which is what you want it to do as you don't want to reach the Microsoft update servers.

    What are your ping results when you ping oneclient.sfx.ms in terminal?

    after i read your comment, though 0.0.0.0. seemed to be working just fine for me, i went in and changed it to 0.0.0.0 just in case because i'm not trying to go back to having problems. so i can't do what you're asking, sorry. but i did the ping test just now (now having 0.0.0.0 oneclient.sfx.ms in the host file, no period after the last zero) and i got the request timeout message as you showed in your previous comment

    shame on you Microsoft, if the version does not work with an old OS, please learn your autoupdater not to install it and keep the old one

    I've followed this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sz0Red_HN4&t=765s to update the OS on my old mac. seems to have worked well.
