I have had Office 365, including OneDrive running on this Mac for several years. Yesterday, OneDrive updated itself (I have the Microsoft AutoUpdater set to automatically download and install updates) to version 23.061.0319. Following that update, it will not run.
I click on the icon in the launchpad, nothing happens
I click on the icon within Finder->Applications, nothing happens
I do not get an error message, there is nothing in the system log, it does not show up in application monitor, it seems to be just dead.
Here is what the system says about the OneDrive.app:
OneDrive:
Version: 23.061.0319
Obtained from: Identified Developer
Last Modified: 4/3/23, 3:18 PM
Signed by: Developer ID Application: Microsoft Corporation (UBF8T346G9), Developer ID Certification Authority, Apple Root CA
Location: /Applications/OneDrive.app
Kind: 64-bit
If I run Microsoft AutoUpdate, this is what it shows for Microsoft products:
None of the Office products is up to date (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook). They are all on version 16.66 because the next version, 16.71 requires an OS Update, which will never come, because this macbook (Macbook Air, mid 2012) is too old and Catalina 10.15.7 is the most upgraded it can get.
Only OneDrive is up to date, v23061.0319, installed yesterday on 4/3/2023.
What can I do to get back to a previous version of OneDrive so that it works??? This sucks that it did not recognize that the most current version is not compatible with my laptop.

I confirm this is the working solution.
But obviously you need Little Snitch (or some other firewall client).
My OS: macOS Catalina 10.15.7
I tried to remove:
OneDriveUpdater
OneDriveUpdaterDaemon.xpc
standalone updater
StandaloneupdaterDaemon.xpc
But I got same "OneDrive can't start" message.
Then I operated by this way:
Uninstalled Microsoft AutoUpdate (this could be not necessary, but I report it as information) considering not useful Word, Excel, Powerpoint updates on macOS Catalina.
Anyway, consider this will also blocks Teams and the rest of 365 suite apps updates.
1 - Complete uninstall of OneDrive by manually removing all OneDrive files searched by FUNTER app.
2 - Installed the OneDrive previous release 23054.0313.0003
Before to start OneDrive
3 - Turned down all network connections
4 - Started Little Snitch Network Monitor to discover connections attempts by "OneDrive Updater" and "StandaloneUpdater", caught them and added two firewall rules to Deny any outgoing connections on both "OneDrive Updater" and "StandaloneUpdater" processes.
5- then start OneDrive
I have the same problem since OneDrive was updated on April 2, 2023. This does not load when I boot the iMac (OS Catalina 10.15.7, which I can not upgrade to a newer OS, as it does not let because of hardware age).
When I try to access the OneDrive application, it does not respond (does not open nor gives error). However, if I open MS Word, it tells me that I am correctly connected to OneDrive, and I can even see the files added from another PC (not updated on my Mac) if I go to Start and then "open". The problem is that since OneDrive is not initialized (the icon does not appear in the top bar as usual), files created on other devices are not synchronized.
I do not dare to delete files that I do not know and that I do not find on my Mac, in case I generate even more problems. The truth is that for me, it is a serious problem, since I use it to work in the office and at home. It's a tool I can't do without at the moment, unless I migrate all my documents to another application like Dropbox.
I hope Microsoft will attend to this problem and fix it urgently.
Best regards,
I hope Microsoft fixes this ASAP. If not....will cancel the extra storage fee I pay and move over to a different solution like Google or Dropbox.
